Ces guerres impitoyables, faucheuses d&rsquo;hommes et de paysans partis d\u00e9fendre la patrie, la libert\u00e9, avec un retour peu probable car l&rsquo;issue d\u00e9j\u00e0 connue, la mort sur les champs de batailles, seuls dans des trous d&rsquo;obus, nourrissant de leur sang et de leurs larmes des terres inconnues.<br>Ces hommes, d\u00e9fenseurs de la libert\u00e9, patriotes, indispensables aux travaux de la terre, une terre souvent taciturne, peu fertile, caillouteuse, \u00e9pineuse, exigeant autant de sacerdoce que la patrie.<br><br>Coste-Belle est un ancien hameau situ\u00e9 \u00e0 1373 m\u00e8tres d&rsquo;altitude sur les flancs du massif des trois Autanes &#8211; la R\u00e9cula, la Grande Autane et la Petite Autane &#8211; au dessus de Pont-du-Foss\u00e9 commune Champsaurine.<br><br>Entre les murets de pierres s\u00e8ches plus aucun cri ne r\u00e9sonne, mais chaque ruine t\u00e9moigne encore. Un lieu de m\u00e9moire qui s\u2019efface doucement sur la pointe des pieds.<br>En ces temps l\u00e0, dans cette contr\u00e9e, vivre se m\u00e9ritait. Chichement, avec parcimonie, la vie s&rsquo;\u00e9grenait entre les saisons. Les bons gestes, le bon sens se transmettaient, s&rsquo;inscrivaient m\u00eame au fil du temps dans les g\u00e8nes pour pr\u00e9server ainsi l&rsquo;h\u00e9ritage d&rsquo;un savoir-faire essentiel pour se maintenir en vie. Seules les guerres et les \u00e9pid\u00e9mies rompaient le fil, ce fil d\u00e9j\u00e0 si tenu par les duret\u00e9s de la vie montagnarde, balayant sans discernement des vies enti\u00e8res.
